Quarantine Beauty

Underground by Lime Cordiale
Whether you're permanently at home or you're not, this is the perfect time to look after, protect and care for yourself. They say things happen for a reason, and I guess from what I've experienced in life nothing could be more true. I'm not sure how this all ends.I'm optimistic and hopeful but, I understand that nothing lasts forever. There is more to life than what the eyes can see, and even in a time of chaos, it's important to reflect, quiet your mind, to be thankful, grateful and appreciative of all the blessings you have, or have had in your life. Let this time be a moment when you can truly let go of old habits that no longer serve you or others in your life. Old pathways of destruction which led you into negative thinking or self-talk.

... but hey y'all, let me not drag you down into murky waters - you want distraction? I got's you. Even before recent events, I indulged heavily in audiobooks and radio dramas. Who knew they could be so good? I simply put them on when I'm doing mind-numbing chores/activities where I don't need 100% focus. Below I will link some audiobooks/dramas/animations I've watched/listened to, along with inspirational content of the moment (recent to me) that you might enjoy.

Audiobooks/Dramas/Animations
The Flowering of the Strange Orchid by HG Wells
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar by Roald Dahl
The Old Ladies by Hugh Walpole
Ther Alibi by Daphne Du Maurier
The Servant by Robin Maugham
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie
Le Triplettes de Belleville by Sylvian Comet

Inspirational Content
Cirque Du Soliel 60 minute Special - my favourite parts - Solo Dance and the Saxophone, Hoops + Acrobats scene. Danila Bim behind the scenes/talk about her act.
makeup!
Now that your attention is fully off from the world outside. I can introduce you to the frivolities of "Quarantine Beauty". I haven't formed any set beauty routines as of yet but, I have been playing around with a few products indoors (like I always do). Why bother? ... Why not? ... Oftentimes makeup is seen as something to snare/trap/snag/attract and bring attention to oneself. If no one is there to see you, many may not see the point of applying makeup, if the one and only goal is being attractive to others. Personally, whilst it's nice to get comments that diverge from "you look tired?" or "are you okay? you look sad" etc. because I've splashed on some makeup, I don't wear it to appease or please others. I enjoy the art of makeup, the application of beautiful colours, creamy textures, shimmers, bold or subdued colours, to create and explore my own skill and temple.

In other words, I'm very used to doing makeup at home, that is where I hone my abilities and I am allowed to break free from religious and societal persecution (Jezebel deserves a slap). Countless times I've found myself being pulled into discussions with those who don't like makeup. I get it, I too wasn't fond of makeup (in my early teens). Perhaps I'm getting payback. Yet, in an awkward and perhaps ironic way, I find many avid makeup-haters who say makeup is a vain pursuit are quite vain themselves. Be it from their own belief in their natural looks,  intelligence, or religiosity, many people are committed to bullying others into their bland dictatorship of dowdy despair and facial frumpery. Yeah, beauty is internal (radiating on the outside) but it can be external too.

Just like training the body or the mind to learn new movements, theories or disciplines, it takes practice, time, dedication to the process and through this develops a certain level of intimacy with oneself. Wearing and applying makeup (to me) creates that same intimacy. You begin to learn what works, what doesn't, the undertones of your skin, the curves of your lips, the curl of your eyelashes, the smoothness of your cheek,  and it is in those moments you cannot only appreciate what you have naturally but learn about yourself too. So yeah, I wear and apply makeup at home, for practice for fun, for my own enjoyment and I suggest you may want to try too.

The Tools
The Ordinary Coverage Foundation in 3.1R
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 50
Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in Dark
3CE Multipurpose Blush in Primula
Bourjois Strober (highlighter) in Universal Glow
Glossier Boy Brow in Brown
Glossier Lash Slick Mascara
Blistex Intensive Moisturiser (smells so good - cherry, gives a whitish look on its own if unblended, I like to use it on top of matte lip products in the center to give some moisture, feels amazing and so yummy)
Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker in Plumps Up
Superdrugs Vitamin E Hydrating Mist (decanted in a little Muji spray bottle, I often use it at the end of my makeup, to make my makeup natural-looking if I feel my face if over powdered or as a pick me up when my skin is feeling or looking a bit "meh" but it also smells good too so it helps if I'm feeling a little "meh" too - light sweet coconut fragrance)
simple, easy, natural but still there makeup (I used the spray on the end photo) + an aliexpresss cream eyeshadow on my eyes (not pictured) Hojo Smooth Texture Eye Shadow in 01
... Then there are my nails. They deserve their own post (in due time).
