Sonia Kashuk Synthetic Flat Top Kabuki Multipurpose Brush
Available: Drugstores in USA. I got mine off eBay. Not sure how much it sells for in-store, but pretty sure it is very affordable.
Volume: 1 brush per case.
Star Properties: Synthetic, flat top, dense but soft.
Packaging
This Synthetic Flat Top Kabuki Multipurpose Brush is from the black-curvy series that Sonia Kashuk runs, and so, it comes in a transparent-top plastic case like all the other brushes in this series.
I think this series is the slightly higher end one. Sonia Kashuk also has those white handle brushes, like the Small Crease Brush, that are cheaper. And they come out with many limited edition brush sets with very fancy handles, that also very affordable.
I really enjoy that this brush has a dedicated case because that means I have something good to store my brush in if I want to pack it for an overseas trip.
I also really appreciate the transparent top. Although I think the transparent top is meant for market/display purposes, and is not really done because they wish to cater to people who love transparent casing just because it is pretty - like myself.
Bristles
The bristles on the Sonia Kashuk brush don't look like much. They look fairly dense, and feel fairly soft. But looks are deceiving! The bristles are actually uber soft on the face, and goes so gently over my under eye area.
I now use this brush for all sorts of BB creams/foundations, and it never fails to make the finish so flawless.
However, if you want to talk about absolute softness, I have to admit that the much more expensive Shisedo Flat Top Kabuki is perhaps some ten times softer, and definitely more dense than Sonia Kashuk's.
The Shisedo is cut quite a lot shorter too.
But the point I really want to bring across is that the Sonia Kashuk performs very well, and is actually more value-for-money than Shisedo. Quite literally, Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Kabuki is cheap and good.
Handle
Sonia Kashuk's hourglass-fashioned marble-like black handle is undeniably ergonomic and genuine great to hold in your hand.
Comparatively, the Shisedo handle is much shorter, and is just straight, like a normal brush.
I do prefer the Sonia Kashuk handle, simply because those curves guide me on where and how I should hold the brush for optimal performance.
Finish
I find that this brush allows me to be very precise, going around my lips, into the sides of my nose, right under my eye, etc, so that the coverage can be perfect. The density and softness of the bristles also makes the finish skin-like and simply stunning.
I feel that the Sonia Kashuk does perform that teeny weeny bit better than the Sephora Professional Mineral Powder 45 Brush, because the Sonia Kashuk is flat top, and so can reach into the crevices of the face.
I also feel that the Sonia Kashuk does better than the Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki, because it is smaller and less dense, does not use so much product, thus giving me a much less heavy coverage (I don't like heavy coverage).
In fact, I even feel that this Sonia Kashuk makes my BB cream more skin-like than my finger can. I do go back to using fingers every now and then when I am in a big rush, because with fingers, I can use two hands and be faster. I only have one brush.
Rating: 5/5.
I think this is very value for money, and if you're looking for a good brush to apply liquid bases, just go for this! Forget Sephora and Sigma. In fact, I have half a mind to buy a second brush for back up, or maybe, to use in my other hand, one left hand, one right hand. =P Then I can do up my face faster.
PS: I just realise that I do not have tag for Sonia Kashuk!!! How could I? I do own a number of their other brushes that are so good! Time to blog more about Sonia Kashuk.
